Former NFL Quarterback Colin Kaepernick Joins State And County Leaders At MACO
Used properly, star power can take you places that policymakers may otherwise struggle to reach.
Case in point: state and county officials are facing tough fiscal times and deficits that King Kong could choke on.
This year, at the annual Maryland Association of Counties conference in Ocean City, these leaders brought some additional help to the fray.
County officials announced a new partnership with former NFL Quarterback Colin Kaepernick. The pro athlete-turned-activist joined Marylanders to announce a program that focuses on enhancing student literacy training with artificial intelligence tools.
Kaepernick launched an AI start-up called Lumi last year, which aims to help storytellers publish and merchandise their work independently, “transforming any creator into Disney,” according to its website.
"I am thrilled to announce the partnership between Prince George's County and NFL Superbowl Champion and social activist Colin Kaepernick,” shared County Executive Aisha Braveboy of the event. “Our collaboration with Colin will enhance our community through targeted investments in education, social justice, and youth mentorship. His relentlessness and dedication to uplifting underserved and minority communities resonate deeply with our mission to elevate Prince George's County, and I’m looking forward to working with him in the coming months."
