‘Quality of Life’ FY27 Budget Is Approved

Prince George’s County leaders have approved a sweeping $6 billion Fiscal Year 2027 budget that closes a daunting $155 million structural deficit while still expanding critical services aimed at improving the daily lives of residents throughout the county.

County Council Chair Krystal Oriadha and County Executive Aisha Braveboy described the newly adopted spending plan as a “Quality of Life Budget,” crafted to strengthen neighborhoods, support working families, improve infrastructure, and enhance opportunities for seniors and youth — all without raising taxes or significantly expanding government spending.

“This budget is about improving everyday life for the people of Prince George’s County,” Oriadha said. “We were able to close a massive deficit while still expanding services and making meaningful investments into our communities without growing the size of the budget. That required discipline, partnership, and a commitment to putting residents first.”

Among the budget’s most notable investments are $2 million in child care grants for working families, expanded funding for senior meal delivery programs, more than $1 million in rental assistance, and over $1 million dedicated to small business support and economic opportunity initiatives. The spending plan also boosts autism support services, fully funds organizations serving residents with disabilities, and expands library services, including Sunday operating hours and new speech and language programming for children.

The budget places heavy emphasis on visible community improvements. More than $30 million has been allocated for roads and infrastructure upgrades, while additional funding will support sidewalk enhancements, litter reduction, neighborhood beautification efforts, and the expansion of the county’s Strike Force 311 cleanup initiative.

Braveboy praised the collaborative effort behind the budget and its focus on balancing fiscal responsibility with resident-centered investments.

“This budget reflects our commitment to ensuring residents see and feel the benefits of government in their everyday lives,” Braveboy said. “Even in the face of difficult financial realities, we remained focused on protecting services, strengthening communities, and investing in the future of Prince George’s County.”

Oriadha said the final spending plan ultimately reflects a broader vision for the county’s future.

“We wanted residents to actually feel this budget in their daily lives,” she said. “That means cleaner communities, safer roads, stronger programs for children, support for seniors, and more opportunities for families to thrive.”
