Biden Administration: ‘We Wish You Success’
Upper Marlboro Mayor Linda Pennoyer Offers The Best For The Next Four Years For Biden-Harris
By Linda Pennoyer
We witnessed one of the most important functions of our Democracy on Jan. 20: the peaceful transition of power. It’s a term we’ve heard a lot over the past several months, and it’s one that as Americans we should never take for granted. Regardless of how we feel about the outcome of any election, ensuring a smooth handoff to the winning candidate is in all of our best interests. That’s especially true today, in 2021. As a nation, we are facing unprecedented challenges: a global health pandemic that has taken more than 400,000 American lives. Add to that job losses, business failures, and economic hardships. There are families unable to meet their mortgage obligations or pay their rent. There is deep-seated political and racial division, inequity, and discrimination. At times, it can seem daunting.
“But if you know me, you know I am an optimist by nature. And like President Biden, I believe our best days are ahead of us. I was especially encouraged by these words in the president’s inaugural address: “We can see each other not as adversaries but as neighbors. We can treat each other with dignity and respect. We can join forces, stop the shouting, and lower the temperature. We can do this if we open our souls instead of hardening our hearts, if we show a little tolerance and humility, and if we are willing to stand in the other person's shoes.”
To me, those are the very values that define the Town of Upper Marlboro. It’s who we are and who we always have been. We may have our disagreements from time-to-time, but those differences of opinion don’t cause us to become bitter enemies or adversaries.
“As your Mayor, I hope you’ll join with me in wishing the incoming Biden-Harris Administration much success over the next four years. I encourage everyone to work together in our nation, our state, our county, and our town with a spirit of partnership, collaboration, and cooperation, so that we truly can, as the president said today, pass along a better world to our children and grandchildren.”
