Always The Right Time To Do The Right Thing
Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy Shares MLK Message
By Aisha Braveboy
It is with great honor that we celebrate this day that has been set aside in acknowledgement of the great Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He was a leader and visionary -- unlike any other before or after him. His ideals of freedom, equality, justice, non-violence and peace are as relevant today as they were during the time he fought for them. He dreamed of a world where we would all have a seat at the table and have our voices heard despite one's race, gender or religion. We have taken significant strides in that direction; however, the tragic events at the Capitol nearly two weeks ago, remind us that there is much more work to be done in healing the divide in our very own communities and this country.
There is no better day than Dr. King's birthday for us to reflect on what he stood for and the greater end we should be working towards. And while this journey has begun for many of us, we must continue and press forward. Let us look inward and resolve to taking outward action in ways that better serve our families, friends and communities. We shall continuously fight together for justice -- for ourselves and fellow man -- just as Dr. King did. Doing so, truly honors his legacy and ensures that we too, leave a mark for future generations.
As Dr. King said, "the time is always right to do what's right". I believe the time is now -- and we must always do what's right.
