Hoyer Observes Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with Virtual Events in the Fifth District
Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) observed Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day with virtual events in the Fifth Congressional District, including St. Mary’s College of Maryland’s 17th annual prayer breakfast and the Charles County NAACP’s 26th annual prayer breakfast.
"I was glad to join with so many friends in the Fifth District today to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.," said Congressman Hoyer. "2020 showed us that the work of Dr. King is more important than ever before. Our nation has a long way to go to accomplish the objectives of the Civil Rights Movement, but I'm encouraged by the continued fight for equality and justice for all Americans."
"At a time when our nation is so deeply divided, it is important that we join together as Marylanders to fight for what is right," continued Congressman Hoyer. "I was glad to join these virtual events today to renew our commitment to Dr. King's vision and work to make our nation a more perfect union. Together we'll continue to fight for peace and justice for all Americans."
Congressman Hoyer also encourages Fifth District residents to participate in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service by volunteering in the community. The MLK Day of Service is the only federal holiday observed as a national day of service – a “day on, not a day off.” Click here to learn more.
