My Campaign For County Executive
A Statement by Jolene Ivey:
“Earlier this week, I announced my campaign for Prince George’s County Executive! As Chair of the Council, I have successfully closed a $171 million budget deficit, passed rent stabilization legislation to keep seniors and fixed-income residents in their homes, and provided record funding to PGCPS. Even through a tough budget year, I ensured property taxes were not increased while increasing the number of police officers in PGPD.
I know that we are at a crossroad and that the next County Executive must tackle the housing affordability crisis, improve our schools, support our businesses, and work with the community and police to reduce crime. All of these things must be done while balancing the upcoming budget where the County is already facing a $158M dollar deficit and the state is facing a $2.7B deficit. Having served as a delegate, I know that the partnership with our counterparts in Annapolis is essential to ensure that Prince George’s County’s concerns and needs are prioritized.
Prince George’s is at a crossroad. The next County Executive must tackle the housing affordability crisis, improve our schools, support our businesses, reduce crime, and foster an economic environment that attracts the industries we want in our county.
If we drop the ball as a county, we could look up in two years and our beloved Prince George’s could be completely unrecognizable.
With Trump being re-elected, the FBI relocation could be halted. Federal jobs could be slashed.
With Washington giving RFK stadium back to the City for free, Prince George’s could lose the Commanders to D.C. and the land could sit vacant for years.
The stakes are too high for us to not put our differences aside and deliver for Prince Georgians.
My entire career in public service has been built on partnerships, and I know that when we work together, we can accomplish big things for the entire county.
That’s why I was elected Chair of the Prince George’s House Delegation when I was a State Delegate in Annapolis. It’s also why I was elected Chair of the Prince George’s County Council.
It’s why I’m running for County Executive.”
