12th Annual DC Beer Week Coming

Covid or not, there are some things one cannot abide: lack of great, cold beer is one of them.

Fortunately, civilization hasn’t completely fallen apart yet.

The DC Brewers’ Guild (DCBG) announces the 12th Annual DC Beer Week (DCBW) from September 13th - 26th, 2020.

This year's DC Beer Week will take on a new look, as the DCBG and the local brewing industry will be working to encourage beer lovers in our community to support local craft breweries while ensuring that all participants are complying with recommended health guidelines.  While it will not be possible to hold traditional large scale events, the DCBG and its partners believe “it is more important than ever to move forward with DC Beer Week to come together as an industry to spread some cheer, promote our limited business operations, and keep our important traditions alive.”

This year's extended DC Beer Week will feature virtual events and on-site promotions and specials.  In addition, local breweries will be selling a special designated "Solidarity Brew," with a portion of the proceeds donated to the DCBG to support continued operations.  Beer lovers will be able to participate in a fun craft beer-themed scavenger hunt and win prizes for visiting sites that feature a "Solidarity Brew." There will still be some friendly competitions for bragging rights among area brewers, though many are virtual this year.

Said Paul Dean, Executive Director of the DC Brewers' Guild: “We are excited to once again bring the DC craft brewing community together to highlight the great selection of craft beer and breweries available to consumers in our area.  Like many small businesses, COVID-19 has taken a big toll on our local breweries, as they struggle to continue operations in a restrictive environment.  This focus of this year's DC Beer Week will be to encourage local consumers to support local breweries so they can continue to survive and thrive for years to come.  In addition, it will give our area's beer lovers an opportunity to engage with their favorite breweries, brewpubs and craft beer establishments in a fun, safe environment."
