WHUR Launches Sister Heritage Station “Quiet Storm” On Golden Anniversary
WHUR is producing a new sister station, “The Quiet Storm Station,” in the iconic format for listeners morning, noon and night.
Picking up on the now historic format that put WHUR on the national stage and set into motion a late-night style of broadcasting replicated by R&B stations across the nation, executives at the iconic institution are now taking the program to a new level and potentially an even broader audience.
The Quiet Storm Station gives listeners more diversity of their favorite slow jams around the clock, seven days a week.
Audiences can hear favorites such as ‘Old Friend’ by Phyllis Hyman to new favorites from artists such as Kem.
Being programmed by WHUR Music and Assistant Program Director Traci LaTrelle, the new station’s music holds to the sound format begun back in 1976 on WHUR by the late Melvin Lindsey.
“What better way to kick-off the road to our Golden Anniversary than to have in place a new station with the Quiet Storm format that helped to put 96.3 WHUR on the map,” said WHUR General Manager Sean Plater.
The Quiet Storm Station comes as a heritage station as 96.3 WHUR celebrates its 50th Anniversary December 10, 2021.
As a bonus to loyal listeners to the station, station executives will also keep audiences informed and engaged 7 p.m.-8 p.m. with the award-winning news/talk show “The Daily Drum” hosted by veteran broadcaster Harold Fisher.
The Quiet Storm Station is available now at 96.4HD2 and the Quiet Storm Station mobile app.
