The Coalition Of African Americans In The Performing Arts Is “Bringing Color To The Classics!” And Virtual Programs To Keep You Engaged At Home.

As other organizations have done during the Covid-19 pandemic, Coalition of African Americans in the Performing Arts (CAAPA) is making adjustments.

And in so doing, they may have brought to light another growing arts venue platform.

Virtual recitals (Vir-citals) for everyone’s viewing and listening pleasure and OPERAations a virtual music classroom for study. Information regarding these opportunities are listed below:

1. "OPERAations" a virtual music classroom experience for Prince George's County Public Schools educators, home school educators, music teachers, etc. and interested residents of the county. Teachers / educators, who may wish to consider utilizing CAAPA's MusicMasters at no charge to the district or educator; the virtual sessions are available via zoom and arranged directly with the educator.   For more information, visit https://4caapa.org/operaations.html

2.  CAAPA is also launching "Vir-citals" a virtual performance based program beginning in April on social media including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and the CAAPA YouTube Channel.  The series penned as "Vir-citals", are a combination of mini virtual recitals featuring live performances, archived concert segments, and twenty minute "vir-citals".   The Vir-citals feature the talents of Black classical musicians, opera singers, and others in the performing arts.  For more information, visit https://4caapa.org/vir-citals.html

The Coalition of African Americans for the Performing Arts is a non-profit organization that has presented programs to Prince George’s County audiences such as the highly successful “Sopranos Slay”, Arias & Shanties, Men in Black Concert-“Mozart, Motown & More”, as well as many other performances, panels, and classes that are based in the classical music genre.

Since 2003, founders and siblings Victor and Pamela Simonson have worked tirelessly to “create wider-based performance opportunities for African American classical musicians and performing artists, as well as introducing the classical music genre, along with other art forms to African American audiences.” With the participation of many artists and art lovers, the Simonsons continue to pull back the veil and shine the light on the one genre of music that once eluded African American attention and inclusion.
