A Look At County Three Cooling Centers

As dangerously high temperatures and humidity grip the region, Prince George’s County residents should take advantage of the cooling centers designed to provide relief from the heat. I visited three county cooling centers to see what they offer as a valuable resource for the community.

The first stop was the Southern Area Aquatics and Recreation Complex in Brandywine. What stood out was the facility’s proximity to the community and to neighboring counties as well. The spacious, family-friendly facility offers many activities and programs, plus comfortable seating for residents to cool off or spend time with family and friends.

Next, I visited the Temple Hills Community Center. What stood out the most was its emphasis on community engagement through sports, classes, and programs, giving residents a place to stay active and connected. It also offers outdoor activities when weather permits.

My final stop was the Prince George’s Sports & Learning Complex in Landover. Like the other centers, it offers many activities and programs for families and the community. What makes it unique was the learning center that gives multifaceted educational opportunities to residents of all ages.

While every center offers a safe, air-conditioned place to cool down, each has its own unique strengths. Whether you are looking for family activities, community engagement, or educational resources, Prince George’s County cooling centers help residents have a safe, active, and fun summer.
