A Food & Friends Thanksgiving

A Food & Friends Thanksgiving

Crossing Boundaries To Support And Fellowship

Giving is more than a time of year or a jurisdictional boundary.

That’s why Prince George’s County Council Chair Todd Turner and Prince George’s County Council Member Jolene Ivey will cross county and state lines to join with Washington, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser and District councilmembers in coming weeks.

Turner, Ivey, Mayor Bowser will join District of Columbia Council members Kenyan McDuffie, Elissa Silverman, Robert White Jr, Trayon White, Montgomery County Council Member Craig Rice and hundreds of volunteers at Food & Friends to prepare and deliver 3,500 complete holiday meals to children and adults in the D.C. region facing HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life-challenging illnesses.

Staff and volunteers are preparing 8,520 pounds of turkey, 1,065 pounds of roasted potatoes, 1,065 pounds of cornbread stuffing, and 5,680 dinner rolls over the three days leading up to Thanksgiving.

The week culminates with the massive assembling and delivering of the meals on Thanksgiving morning. Each Thanksgiving delivery will feed five people, giving clients the opportunity to host dinner for friends and family.

The event takes place from November 25 through 27 and November 28 (Thanksgiving Day from 4:45 am-11:00 am) at Food & Friends’ facility – 219 Riggs Road NE, Washington, DC 20011.

The holiday season is the time when the spirit of giving and helping is the strongest.  It is a time when politicians roll up their sleeves and don hairnets to help feed those in need of a little more comfort.

For Food & Friends, it’s an ongoing tradition that is committed to “Delivering hope one meal at a Time”.
