County Council To Hold Budget Discussion

County Budget Public Hearing To Be Held May 4

The Prince George’s County Council will hold public discussions on the FY22 Budget to cap off a full day of legislative activities May 4. The discussion comes at a time when County Executive Angela Alsobrooks announced increased funding for the county.

“In total, we brought home over $1.6 billion in aid to the County, an increase of $34.6 million from last fiscal year,” Alsobrooks said in her Community Connections newsletter. “Overall, we had an extremely successful session in Annapolis, and I’m excited to share those accomplishments with you. I am very proud of the work that Team Prince George’s accomplished over the last several months.”

The Prince George’s County Council and the Council’s Committee of the Whole (COW) will convene virtually on Tuesday, May 4.

Council Session, scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m., will review proposed legislation and conduct public hearings for legislation eligible for enactment.  The Council will also address resolutions eligible for adoption, including CR-027-2021, supporting Medicare for All, federal legislation expanding healthcare for all Americans.

The COW convenes at 11:00 a.m. to review legislation and conduct a budget work session for the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) Operating and CIP proposed budgets.

The County Council will reconvene at 5:00 p.m. to conduct a Budget Public Hearing for the Prince George's County Proposed FY 2022 Operating Budget; Six-Year Capital Program (including the Capital Improvement Budget); the Prince George's County Board of Education portion of the County FY 2022 Operating Budget; Proposed Budget of the Redevelopment Authority and Revenue Authority Of Prince George's County; and the Constant Yield Tax Rate.
