Del. Jamila Woods’ Job Fairs Exceed Expectations
By Hamil R. Harris
More than 200 people recently showed up for a job fair at the Ebenezer AME in Fort Washington, and according to Maryland State Delegate Jamilla Wood (D-26), the event exceeded her expectations.
“We invited 24 employers to come out and more than 30 showed up, and we invited 75 people and 229 showed up,” said Woods, who is now planning a job fair in Baltimore. “So many people need employment, it's unbelievable.”
The Prince George’s County Police, the Washington Suburban and Sanitation Commission, and McDonald were among the firms that participated, and other employees came to the job fair, said Woods, who is also a minister as well as a lawmaker.
Among the participants were the: Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers • Community Legal Services • Comptroller of Maryland • Housing Initiative Partnership • Hygea Healthcare • Luminis Health • MD Dept. of Labor.
In addition, there was the county’s Department of Employment Services, Office of Financial Regulation. • Maryland Insurance Administration • Maryland Park Police • Maryland State Police • MedStar Health and many county agencies.

The county agencies included: Prince George’s Community College, • PG County 911 • PG County Health Connect • PG County Sheriff’s Office • United Communities Against Poverty (UCAP) • and Wright Choice Contracting.
Rev. Tony Lee, pastor of the Community of Hope AME, wasn't surprised at the big turnout. He said many churches have become community hubs as a result of President Trump’s cuts.
“We have dealt with many job cuts as a result of Trump’s polices,” Lee said. “In this AI era, people need to retool and get new tools for a new era.”
Among the Tips for Job Seekers included;
