Residents Invited to Shape the Future of the Blue/Silver Line Corridor

Prince George’s County residents will soon have an opportunity to help shape the future of development and transportation along one of the region’s most important transit corridors. County planning officials are inviting the public to participate in a Joint Public Hearing on the Preliminary Central Avenue Blue/Silver Line Sector Plan and Proposed Sectional Map Amendment, a long-range planning effort designed to guide growth, land use, and transit accessibility along the Metro line.

The hearing will take place Tuesday, March 10 at 6:00 p.m. at the Wayne K. Curry Administration Building in Largo, bringing together residents, business leaders, faith organizations, and civic groups to offer feedback on the proposed plan.

Developed by the Prince George’s County Planning Department, the sector plan focuses on the Central Avenue corridor served by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s Blue and Silver Metro lines, which include several key stations in Prince George’s County. Those stations—Capitol Heights, Addison Road–Seat Pleasant, Morgan Boulevard, and Downtown Largo—serve as critical gateways connecting county residents to employment centers in Washington, D.C., Northern Virginia, and throughout the metropolitan region.

County planners say the new sector plan is designed to build on that connectivity by encouraging smarter development around the stations, improving walkability, and strengthening economic opportunities near transit hubs. By guiding zoning and land-use decisions around the Blue/Silver Line corridor, the plan aims to promote vibrant mixed-use communities that combine housing, retail, office space, and public amenities within easy reach of Metro service.

For residents who rely on transit, improvements tied to the corridor plan could eventually translate into more convenient station access, better pedestrian connections, expanded development near transit, and enhanced mobility across the county. The effort also aligns with broader regional goals of reducing traffic congestion and encouraging sustainable transportation options.

Officials emphasize that public participation will play a key role in shaping the final version of the plan, which is anticipated to be considered for approval in 2026.

Residents who wish to testify at the hearing can register through the Prince George’s County Council’s eComment portal at pgccouncil.us/Speak. Registration to speak in person must be completed by 3:00 p.m. on the day before the hearing, although on-site registration will also be available. Speakers will be allotted three minutes to present their comments.

Written testimony may also be submitted through the portal, by email to onlinesignup@co.pg.md.us, or by fax to (301) 952-5178. The public record will remain open for written comments until the close of business on March 25, 2026.

County leaders say the hearing represents an important moment for residents to share ideas about how the Blue/Silver Line corridor should evolve—ensuring that future development reflects the needs, priorities, and aspirations of Prince George’s communities.
