GoPGC Hits the Road
Prince George’s Transit System Gets a Fresh New Look After 35 Years
All aboard, Prince George’s County! The county’s beloved public transit system is getting a major glow-up, and officials are inviting residents to come along for the ride.
After more than three decades of connecting communities, TheBus has officially been reimagined as GoPGC, ushering in a bold new chapter for public transportation across Prince George’s County. The transformation celebrates 35 years of service while introducing a more modern, rider-focused approach designed to move the county into the future.
But this is much more than a new logo and fresh paint.
GoPGC represents a countywide effort to create a transit experience that is smarter, cleaner, easier to navigate and more responsive to the needs of today’s riders. County leaders say the revamped system is focused on improving mobility for residents, students, seniors, workers, businesses and visitors while making public transportation more visible and accessible throughout the county.
One of the biggest changes is the expansion of service options. GoPGC's fare-free fixed-route buses continue to provide dependable transportation throughout the county, while selected routes now offer Sunday service, giving riders more flexibility for work, worship, shopping and recreation.
The county is also refreshing its innovative PGC Link service, which functions much like a rideshare option for public transportation. Using smaller vehicles and technology-driven routing, the service responds to real-time rider demand rather than relying solely on fixed schedules.
For seniors and residents with disabilities, Plus—formerly known as Call-A-Bus—continues providing specialized curb-to-curb transportation services that help ensure mobility remains available to all county residents.
Looking ahead, the county is also planning Express, a limited-stop bus rapid transit service often described as a “subway on wheels.” Designed to move passengers faster between major destinations, the service aims to reduce travel times and bypass congestion through dedicated transit features.
The rebranding effort is part of the county’s long-range Transit Vision Plan and reflects a renewed commitment to innovation, sustainability and customer service. Officials say the initiative honors the system’s rich history while preparing it for the next generation of riders.
The celebration will culminate on September 2 during Transit Month, when county leaders unveil the fully branded fleet and commemorate 35 years of public transit service in Prince George’s County. For longtime riders and newcomers alike, GoPGC promises that the journey ahead will be faster, friendlier and more connected than ever before.
