The newly established role signals a significant step in the Braveboy Administration’s effort to modernize how government communicates with residents, businesses, community organizations, and stakeholders. As Chief Communications Officer, Fischer will serve on the County Executive’s senior leadership team and oversee public information, media relations, executive communications, digital engagement, critical incident coverage, and strategic messaging throughout County government.
“Creating the position of Chief Communications Officer represents an important step in modernizing how Prince George’s County communicates with our residents, businesses, and community partners,” County Executive Braveboy said. “Communication is one of the most important responsibilities of government. Brian Fischer has demonstrated exceptional leadership, professionalism, and creativity throughout his career, and I am confident he will build a best-in-class communications operation that reflects the excellence of Prince George’s County.”
County officials said the position was created to streamline communications across agencies and ensure that residents receive timely, accurate, and consistent information regardless of where they interact with government services.
Fischer brings extensive communications, media, and production experience to the role. Most recently, he served as Manager of the Media Relations Division for the Prince George’s County Police Department, a position he held since August 2022. During his tenure, he led communications efforts surrounding major incidents, emergencies, public safety initiatives, and high-profile county events while managing relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets.
A veteran communications strategist and producer, Fischer has overseen public information campaigns, recruiting initiatives, press conferences, feature productions, and community engagement projects that highlighted county services and public safety efforts. His professional background also includes producing events connected to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner during the Bush and Obama administrations, as well as entertainment productions in the Washington region.
In his new position, Fischer will be tasked with developing a unified communications strategy that connects county agencies under a shared vision while elevating the Prince George’s County brand through innovative storytelling and enhanced public engagement. County leaders believe the role will help strengthen public trust by ensuring government communications are coordinated, responsive, and accessible.
“I am honored by the opportunity to serve as the county’s first Chief Communications Officer,” Fischer said. “I look forward to working alongside County Executive Braveboy, agency leaders, our communications professionals, and the media to build a unified communications enterprise that is transparent, responsive, and reflective of the incredible work being done every day on behalf of the residents of Prince George’s County.”
The appointment marks another milestone in the Braveboy Administration’s broader effort to build a more connected and accountable government. By creating a centralized communications leadership structure, County officials hope to improve public access to information while ensuring that residents remain informed about programs, services, public safety issues, and initiatives that affect their communities. The move also underscores a growing recognition among local governments that effective communication is essential to delivering quality public service and maintaining public confidence in government institutions.
