Community Kinship Coalition Seeks to Spread Holiday Cheer During This Whirlwind Year
By Kia Lisby
This year has been a hardship for everyone in some aspect. While many people cannot wait for the year to be over and begin a fresh start in 2021, others are embracing the last bit of 2020 with holiday cheer.
Though the holidays are a tough time for some, the spirit of giving can help cheer the sorrows.
Community Kinship Coalition, Inc. (CKC), are doing their part in giving, during this Christmas season by hosting their annual Toys for Joy toy drive December 19.
For close to two decades, CKC has contributed to the Seat Pleasant community through events such as Toys for Joy to help bring toys to local area children in need of assistance.
The success of Toys for Joy has allowed for the expansion of gift giving to be shared outside of the Seat Pleasant community, for all children ages 2-15.
Over the years, Toys for Joy donors include WHUR, Kevin Durant Foundation, Jaspers and BB&T Bank.
This year, CKC has partnered with community stakeholders such as Prince George’s County Department of Parks and Recreation, Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Jasper’s Restaurant, Viya Group, Jacobs Brand Management, Gentleman of Sophistication, Protect the Prodigy, and more.
“This is the greatest impact I think it will have [Toys for Joy], despite everything we’re up against. This will bring some type of joy to our children and some relief to our parents who aren’t working” said Dr. George Hodge, Community Kinship Coalition Founder and CEO, Protect the Prodigy.
Individuals and stakeholders will be able to safely drive and drop off donations while safety measures and guidelines are being met due to the pandemic. New and unopened toys will be accepted along with monetary donations via Paypal and Cashapp ($CKCJOY).
All donations are tax deductible.
This event takes place in the left parking lot of Jasper’s Restaurant located at 9640 Lottsford Road, Largo, MD 20774 between the hours of 10AM through 4PM.
