County Council Vice-Chair Deni Taveras Gives Support To New Pennyroyal Station Restaurant Opening
By Cecil Merkerson, III
The historic Singer building which housed the First National Bank is adding a new addition as it welcomes Pennyroyal Station, an American-styled comfort food restaurant.
Located in the heart of Mount Rainer, Pennyroyal Station joins the commercial Gateway Arts District along Route 1, County Council Vice-Chair Deni Taveras (D-Dist. 2) welcomed the establishment as a thriving addition to the area. Taveras believes it to be something exciting and signifies the confidence for the future during COVID-19-influenced times.
Pennyroyal Station owners Erin Edwards and Jessie Miller are no strangers to the region, as both are veterans of Bar Pilar in the Washington, D.C. area.
When these two teamed to open the restaurant, they envisioned a community gathering place for residents and hungry consumers from across the region. Miller’s trying to re-imagine comfort food as he offers his creative take on for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Edwards, a Mount Rainer resident, already believed the community had a great atmosphere. After moving to the area, she knew she had to open a restaurant.
“There are so many businesses in this area, along with a thriving arts community, we feel lucky to become part of it,” Edwards said. When the two teamed up to open the restaurant they envisioned a gathering spot for the neighborhood. Inside, the owner transformed the 1,700 square foot building with personal touches, maintained it naturally lit, and outfitted with marble tile.
Pennyroyal’s come-as-you are atmosphere may blend a smooth chemistry as a social hotspot while providing leisurely meals and special occasions.
