JANUARY 2025

Prince George’s Suite Magazine reaches 20th anniversary. The award-winning publication was created to tell the positive story of Prince George’s County. Then Lt. Gov. Michael Steele, a county resident, was the first prominent feature profile story.

G.S. Proctor & Associates, the largest black-owned lobbying agency in Maryland, reaches its 30th anniversary. Launched in Jan 1995, the firm’s president and CEO sits on the board at WesBanco, among others. In June 2025, the banking titan was honored by Nasdaq as a result of its merger with Premier Financial Corp. The Nasdaq “moment” signals the bank’s presence on the global stage.

Federal Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) cuts begin to go into effect with the first wave of job eliminations happening on Feb. 14, 2025. The cuts are so profound, the day becomes known as The St. Valentine’s Day Massacre (a nod to the infamous mob hit in 1929). Thousands of Prince Georgians who work for the federal government are negatively impacted.

The DMV Is Home To History Makers. Ovechkin Is The Newest To The Neighborhood. Ovechkin broke Wayne Gretzky’s longstanding career record by reaching 895 goals on April 6. He reached 900 goals Nov. 5 and is currently at 911. pgsuite.com/culture-arts/2025/4/17/reaching-immortality?rq=Ovechkin

On April 28, the Washington Commanders announced that the team will leave Prince George’s and return to Washington, DC when their current lease ends. Although the site and the surrounding area never reached their peak economic return, local businesses did experience revenue increases of some $2,000 per game day. The stadium provided jobs for thousands of residents and local youth. The Commanders, combined with Six Flags, contributed nearly $12 million per year in tax revenue to Prince George’s.

MAY 2025

Six Flags Announces Closing After 50 Years in Prince George’s. It shut down on November 2, leaving 500 acres open and ending jobs for nearly 100 core staff thousands of seasonal and part-time youth each year. The park generated approximately $3 - $3.5 million in annual revenue to the county.
